A number of the better Tamron SP zooms also use 62mm e.g. 60-300 SP,
70-210/3.5 SP, so 62mm is quite popular.

62mm is not odd, 35-80/2.8 is designed for the future, the E-10/20
also use 62mm filter ;-)
