Yes, I did bracket my planet pix, and I did "know" the exposure. The
problem was, I knew the exposure for slower film/lenses, and ended up
with about 33 overexposed frames and about 2 properly exposed ;-)
Basically, I underestimated how fast 800 film would record star & skyglow
during late twilight. Most of my shots were in the 8 second range, and I
only took a couple in the 2-4 sec range, which is where I needed to be.
(All this is at f1.8).
This weekend is when Mercury will be at its highest point above the
horizon, so if you're going to try shooting the planets now's the time!
And yes, the photoshop angels provided the labels ;-)

Nice shot. Did they bracket like heck or did you just "know" the exposure?
Also, how did you manage to hang the labels on the sky? Angels helping? :-
