Well, I took my second stab at photography in the church using some of
the list members advice. As some of you may remember, I used my OM-4Ti,
F280 and a variety of lenses. I was unhappy with the initial results as
the negatives were all a bit thin, and the prints "muddy" looking.
It was from this (and another occasion) that I discovered my -4Ti was at
fault. It is being serviced as we speak, but this time I used the
manual guide numbers and my OM-1n with the T32. I have to say that I
think everything went smoothly. After getting the numbers in my head,
it wasn't a problem estimating the appropriate f-stop based on
distances. The only thing that threw me in some of the tests was that
when I was at close distances, my flash meter was telling me that I
wasn't getting a full f16 when I should have been. This wasn't much of
a problem as I was between 15-50 feet for most shots, and gave the
135/2.8 a great work-out. I also think that the electronic "eye" may be
wrong on the T32. It would blink indicating that there was enough light
for an "auto" on the flash, but my meter was showing 1-2 stops
underexposure.
I used Fuji 400(NGH?) rated at 250. Not only was I paranoid about
under-exposure, but most of the members are African-American, and I
needed the extra light to bring out detail in their faces. Most of my
shutter speeds were at 1/4 or 1/8 so that the background would be about
1 stop underexposed. I will be interested to see if I get any ghost
images, and will have the results back tomorrow.
I also experienced the film skipping during shooting. This is most
curious as the camera has been recently been serviced, and I have never
mis-loaded film. I am always careful to make certain that the teeth
mate with the film, and that it is loaded straight. Of course when I
got home, I could not reproduce the skipping with a blank roll, so I
will have to see if it behaves like this in the future.
Anyway, thanks again for all the advice, and I will post some of the
results tomorrow!
