I concur about scsi. I have a 7500 Powermac with scsi, firewire, and usb and they all work well. I have a Minolta Scan Elite, Yamaha cd burner and they also can be started anytime without a reboot and they work flawlessly. When I buy a new Mac I plan to buy a scsi card so I can continue to use my scanner.
