Hi all,

I've had some time to get acquainted with the Winder 2 and quite frankly I'm not too happy with it.
But I'll be holding on to it because it actually improves the process of
photography when I'm using it for event, fast moving type photography.
The winder improves the grip with the camera when I am using a particularly
long and heavy lens such as a f2.8 medium range zoom. Usually coupled with
a T32 or Metz 45 CL 4, the whole combination feels faster and more
purposeful. Not having to think about film advancing is a plus and the
balance of the entire rig can be kept at equilibrium when not having to
advance manually.
My favorite feature of the Winder in such settings is the NOISE. I did
mention that I hated it before. I still do hate it. However when I
photographed a large group the other day, after the Winder advanced one
frame, I heard approving voices saying "wow, so professional". Never
happened before when I used the camera without winder. (digression: And
people never believe I'm the official photographer when I show up with my
Leica)
I still hate the noise and I still want to get an MD 2 for the smoother and
quieter sound. For the qualities of the Winder/MD however I am hooked on
its use when I'm on assignment.
For personal photography however, I would tend to take it off not so much
for the weight, but for the NOISE.
As for the survey, I am surprised at the large number of people who use the
Winder/MD as much as they do. I've always felt that the whole point of the
OM system was in its smallness and lightness. Well, to each his own I guess.
