Well, my experience is different. I bought my 100/2.8 2nd hand about 1983.
It's in a hard case with the rubber hood in the cap, and the hood is marked
2/40mm, 2/85mm, 2.8/100mm.
Of course it also fits the 50/1.8, 50/1.4.
And the hard case closes no problem.
Didn't realise I'd had it so long until I looked just now. The glass must
surely
be worn out. Perhaps I'd better let it go while it still looks good. <g>
