whoa there, i think that's a little off... the reason you use a gray card is so
the camera gives a proper
"reflected" reading since it is calibrated for 18 0ray. incident is a whole
other ball game, where you
measure light falling ONTO the subject not reflected OFF the subject.

keep the gray card inthe same light as the subject, meter the gray card w/
camera (doesnt matter spot,
centre weight, matrix, whatever, it should come out the same... thats the BIG
reason to use a gray card in
the first place). you can go close to the card and meter it (frame filling) or
spot meter the card if you are far
away. the idea is to measure ONLY light reflected off the card and NOTHING else.
