Everywhere I've ever shot sports, standard operating procedure for
newspaper photogs is to use flash. At a tournament, there may be as
many as a half dozen of us lined up at courtside, blasting away (I
typically run through a roll a quarter, so that's 144 flashes if I
shoot the whole game). Players, refs, and coaches never even notice
we're there. Their attention is on the game.
