If one is shooting landscapes and wants to critically evaluate DOF, this

kind. It would also keep the aperature preset for long exposures, reducing
vibrations.
My M645 lenses have DOF preview in the form of a slide switch with an "A"
and "M" position. There's a design trade-off in both the OM's "momentary"
stopdown button and the Mamiya's slide switch. It's convenient for working
with the lens manually stopped down for longer than a few seconds, and it
can be used in conjunction with the MLU for vibration reduction. However,
when using the prism finder's TTL metering, one must remember to check this
switch before metering when first using the camera and after changing
lenses to ensure it's in the "A" position! OTOH, the OM's design prevents
this problem by using a momentary spring-loaded button on its "Auto"
lenses. IMO, the difference between the two reflects different design
priorities weighed against the pros and cons of each method.
