If you had the means to buy one of these beasts, a Leica R8 body would be a
no-brainer. So don't let price disuade your decision. :-))
I'd expect this lens from Olympus to be about 2/3 the cost of the Leica
lens. Don't forget, this auction has all three focusing modules to go with
the head. It's a modular system. Those aren't teleconverters.
It's a spectactular lens set. Not worth the money, IMO, but great.
Now for comparisons:
The $14,500 price isn't as high as you might think. Total retail from B&H
on those items is $23,000 (Head $9k, 2x $5.9k, 1.4x $4.6k, 1x $3.5k). It's
almost certainly gray market though. A pro would have to weigh the downside
of the 3-year Leica Passport warranty if it's not included.
Nikon equivalent (Autofocus)
~$17,500 (600/4 $9k, 400/2.8 $8.5)
Canon equivalent (Autofocus, IS0
~$17,000 (600/4 $8.4k, 400/2.8 $7.4k)
Add the cost of a 1.4x converter for both Nikon and Canon at ~$400.

I think I can see why some people like Leica. I wish there
was a Zuiko "equivalent" - would half to be a a tenth the
price though.
