Well Bill, yes, I've had the same concerns as well as not wanting to trust my
eyesight to manual focus. It was well known that 9 months ago I said goodbye
to the list and sold just about all my gear here. I went to the Contax N1
system and must say that I have been having a great time with the Contax
gear. Phenomenal results. But, having said that, I am slowly returning here
and am again picking up a couple of bodies and lenses. I just don't get that
OM 'fun factor' feedback from anything else. I will continue to use both
brands, however.
Maybe your father just feels the need for something 'new', and I have heard
from others the FM3a is a pleasure to use. His rationalization that his Om2n
will break is OK, but there are plenty of OM bodies out there to replace it
with. As for the lenses, I feel the Zuikos are still as good if not better
than many 'newer' designs. Depends what you're going to compare it to- a
consumer grade Nikkor, or some Zeiss glass? To me, the Zuiks are certainly
better than 'new' Canon or Minolta, or other brands. Yes, the line is 'long
in the tooth', but something keeps bringing me back to it.
Best,
George S.
