Can any of you recommend a good 'beginning photography' book to go with
an OM camera that I will soon own?
I am looking for a good general introduction to photography including the
theory behind photography and the basics of taking a variety of different
types of photographs. The book need not be OM specific, but applicable
to OM cameras (I would assume that any good photography book would be
applicable)

How to Take Great Photographs With Any Camera

You should be able to find it at any large bookstore.
If not: http://www.takegreatphotos.com/
After you absorb all that, the Ansel Adams trilogy is a more advanced
classic (The Camera, The Negative, and The Print). The first two are
excellent references. The last one is more applicable if you're making
prints in your own darkroom (but if you want to know how custom prints are
done . . .)
Last, but not least, ask here. You'll find no shortage of opinions to help
you :-)
