The only real cheap alternative to the 16/3.5 is one
of those Russian Zenitar lenses. They seem to be happy
with them on the Pentax group.
And they have every reason to be happy with them! I think I've told the
tale of my Zenitar on this list before, but I'll repeat the short version:
I got a Zenitar for Pentax K for a song and took off the original mount and
exchanged it with the mount from a dead Zuiko 50/1.8. I used very fine
sandpaper to match the register distances and to have the Zenitar focus to
infinity. The lens is permanently stopped down with a spring from a pen,
and it all works like a charm.
Star fields show nice and pinpoint stars even wide open, really amazing
bang for the bucks.
