Dean,
I recently received my OM-1 back from CAMTECH. In the case of an OM-1,
the service includes converting from the 1.35 volt mercury battery to a
modern 1.5 volt silver-oxide battery. The battery well is modified to
properly hold the (smaller) battery. I assume that John installed a
diode to drop the voltage from 1.5 volts to 1.35 volts, but I've never
asked him.
All of the foam was replaced with new stuff. I assume that John cleans
the stuff that needs cleaned and adjusts the stuff that needs adjusted,
but I don't know the details. It is as close as I will ever get to
unwrapping a new OM-1. John fitted mine with a new top cover, which
added to the "new" look.
This is a very worthwhile expense. I'm meeting my dad for lunch. I'm
going to swap dad my OM-1 for his OM-1, and send his off for servicing.
The only drawback that I can think of is that you will experience "OM
withdrawal syndrome" and will purchase additional OM bodies to keep you
company! <g>
