Where I went to see the Leonids at Anza, the dark sky site for Orange
County Astronomers, there were a lot of clouds. There was
intermittent clearing which allowed good overhead views during the
height of the display. There was one every few seconds, not the
"storm" predicted. I thought it was very spectacular though. Some of
them were very bright, enough to light up clouds like lightening if
the view was blocked. Some left glowing trails after they burned out.
Some of the trails took 8 or 9 seconds to fade from visibility. Some
of them left trails a third of the way across the sky.
Glad I did not miss it. Like Garth. I decided not to muck around with
the camera in the dark at the last minute. Could the temperature
have something to do with that? :-)
