Tom,
I recall hearing that tamron's service department could adjust the friction on
the zoom ring of the 70-210 SP, preventing it from slipping when pointed up.
Maybe the same holds true for the 80-200, although those big front elements are
heavy.
FWIW, my 80-200 also slips a little when pointed up.
