The price you paid for the 8x12 prints probably can't justify custom cropping -
if
you have the whole frame printed you can trim it to 8x10 to fit a frame or
whatever. Otherwise go to a pro lab and get the print cropped to your
specification.

Sounds about right.

True, the fewer the intermediate steps the better from a cost, quality and ease
of
use perspective.

See previous comments - you obviously aren't using a good lab. The minilab I
deal with has stuffed 1 film of mine in the last 8 years, that's 1 too many,
but a
much better average than you have been getting.

I pay $AU19 (that's about $US10) for 36 6x4 prints.
