Hi folks,

There was a recent discussion on Photo.net regarding the most influential
photo of all time. People really seemed to latch onto the "influential"
part, so most of the photos discussed were of a photojournalist theme.
"Earthrise" by Anders was mentioned often, as were "Execution of a Viet Cong
Prisoner" by Adams, "Girl Running from Napalm" by Ut, "Raising the Flag at
Iwo Jima" by Rosenthal, and "Death of a Spanish Soldier" by Capa.

Others mentioned were the photos of the raising the Soviet flag over the
Reichstag, Marilyn Monroe over the grate, the student and tank in the
Tianenmen Square, Kent State students, the mushroom cloud taken from the
tail of the B-29, and the firefighter at the Oklahoma bombing site.

Personally, none of these do I consider as my favorite (I seem to be at a
loss for that one...although I'm a sucker for any good landscape taken in
large format), they are all very haunting and certainly memorable images.
Interestingly, two things come to my mind when I read about these photos: 1)
It is a shame that Life Magazine is no more...and 2) almost all of these
famous photos were taken with equipment that is far less "capable" than
modern wonderbricks or our OMs and Zuikos. I guess it sort of proves that
the most important piece of equipment can't be found in any camera bag, but
in the photographer's mind.
