1.4x-A teleconverter w/ or w/o Zuiko 180/2.8:
<< (b) the jump in the 180/2.8 serial numbers (1132xx to 2000xx within my
S/N collection) probably occurred around 1985/86. >>
Maybe earlier. I have just looked at my OM-2S/P brochure: C211E-0884D August
1984, and that has the 180/2.8 with serial number visible 200083 on page 19.
It doesn't have the 180/2 on the system chart though - item 34 is the 200/4.
So there's been a bit of editing bythe time your brochure came along in 1986.
<< 180/2.8
S/N 111978. The lens was probably supplied for testing from the French
Olympus distributor at the end of 1985/early 1986, and as it is usual
practice that a manufacturer wants to present the most current samples,
this indicates that 2 years after the introduction of the 1.4x-A, no S/N
2xx,xxx samples were around >>
They got an old one out of the closet! 200083 is there in August 1984.
Maybe there's s simpler explanation for the change from 1xxxxx to 2xxxxx.
Pick from the following.
A new batch of lens/barrels/lens fronts being ordered.
Someone lost count.
Someone left in a huff and took the little production book with them.
Someone retired, died, got another job, was sacked and no-one asked them how
many had been made.
A new guy/lady came in and started at 2xxxxx.
Maybe they were going to scrap the 180 to make way for the 180/2 and then
decided to make some more agter throwing away the remaining parts! The 180/2
was also a bit "late", wasn't it - maybe a problem occurred with it.
Sheer boredom.
