When you do, look and look carefully. Think about:
a. lighting, its nature (harsh, diffused/soft) and direction
b. exploring individually the colors, shapes, textures, etc. (the formal
elements)
c. perspective, point of view and composition (what's needed to "tell the
story" and what's to be "subtracted" somehow because it's not needed).
These are exercises when practiced deliberately and individually, and
require concentration. Ultimately, you will find yourself "seeing" these
things and putting them together. When you do, you'll find yourself
immersed in what you are doing to the exclusion of anything else pressing
in on your life.
