I find that when I use my varimagni on my OM-4 I need to set the diopter
on my OM-4 so that it matches my other OMs. When I do that it works fine
(no adjustment necessary when switching magnifications). If it's set
otherwise I do have problems with the varimagni.

I'm not sure I understand this. With mine, at the 1.2x setting, I can see
the full screen (reversed, of course). At 2.5x I see just a magnified
image of the center of the screen. It doesn't sound like this is what you
are getting.
