After thinking about it a bit more, it would be possible to add an
electronic self timer to the 3Ti design by adding a relay to the mirror
box to trip the mirror. I have no idea why Olympus didn't do this, but
it looks like they may have had plans for it. The exploded parts diagrams
clearly show an opening for a 4Ti style self timer switch/lamp at the
front of the body. The opening is covered with a plastic filler plate in
the production 3Ti. Either Olympus couldn't get the timer to work or
Maitani had a change of heart in providing an electronic only timer. I
guess we'll never know.......
