Hi all. I was in Silvio's Cameras (Torrance, California) the other day,
looking for hard lens cases for an upcoming trip. While there, a VIP by
the name of Mr. Hiroshi Oki was introduced to the proprietor. They
started talking Olympus and my ears perked up. When I saw the chance, I
introduced myself to Mr. Oki, showed him my black leather'd, 2-screen'd
OM-2n with 50f/2 and got his attention.** Mr. Oki was difficult to
understand but I caught a few interesting things. He knows Maitani, he
uses IS and E10 for his personal use, and he said that Olympus had just
announced an interchangeable lens digital. I suppose the list has been
full of this news for the past few weeks - I didn't catch it so it came
as a surprise to me. I told him there was an avid collector base for OM
and he seemed surprised and wanted the address of our listserve, so I got
his card and I'll be sending our listserve info to him. His card says
that Mr. Oki is the manager of sales planning for the consumer products
group. A thoroughly pleasant fellow.

(**Footnote: This started a bragging war with one of the sales dudes
behind the counter, who claims he has a MAITANI SIGNED M-1, an 8mm, a
350mm, and a whole string of other unbelieveable itOMs. I was expecting
to next hear about his complete set of white macro lenses and rare
titanium OM-2n, but Silvio himself put a stop to the brag-fest. This was
the same guy who, a year ago, when I found an average-priced OM-1 in the
store and started fingering it, stated that the price was an error,
grabbed it from me, and jabbered excitedly about how he wanted to buy the
camera at that price himself. I said, "go ahead," and walked out, to
sales-dude's surprise. The camera was subsequently returned to the shelf.)
