The shift lens is of value mainly when the camera cannot be held level. The
more common need is for exteriors. Sometimes where high vaulted ceilings are
shot from hallways, where vertical lines exist in different planes, it is
the only solution. The more difficult problem is to find contractors that
are willing to actually pay enough to make the work worth spending the time.

If he is doing residential interior renovations, then I would think a
ladder
would do the trick. Most ceilings are no higher than 9 or 10 feet and it
shouldn't be too difficult to control perspective, IMHO.
