Leaf shutters are limited to a maximum speed (even when new) of about
1/350th (even when the ring says 1/500th. ) This was discussed in a thread
awhile ago.

| PJ,
| Just a follow up to my earlier post about shutter speed testing. I
| have completed a test of my "new to me" Canonet QL17 and have a *.wav
| file of the shutter test from 1/4 sec. to 1/500. If you would like a
| copy to see the available resolution I would be happy to send a one off
| line to all who ask. The file is ~650Kb and is quite easy to see the
| typical errors of an older RF Copal shutter when using a program like
| Cool Edit. The low and middle speeds are all with in 1/3 stop but the
| high end is slow. In this case the 1/250 and 1/500 are ~2/3 stop slow.
| As this is a Copal Shutter the Left and Right channels are identical,
| but for a Focal plane shutter the lag between the channels yields the
| individual curtain speed. This test took about a 45 minutes to complete
| including the time used to determine the error in the speeds.
