Sorry Gregg, I must correct the impressions I gave you.  Although 
there are many single-sex schools still around, most of them private 
(we call them "Public Schools"), my sons attended a coeducational 
State School in Norfolk (East Anglia).
I attended a Roman Catholic Public School (a Benedictine Abbey school 
in Somerset) which was single-sex and I would not have handicapped my 
boys in the same way (socially I mean).
