Hi guys and gals,
I just received an OM-1n from, well, you know, THAT auction site, this week.
Aside from foam rot (never seen it 'til now but it's pretty obvious when you
do) and a cracked Shoe 4 (so what else is new?), and a last name VERY lightly
engraved in the base plate, this camera is NICE! The only paint even marred
is on the hinges. Very light brassing on one, a scratch (easily touched up)
on the other. I ran a roll of film thru it this afternoon as thunderclouds
threatened an otherwise sunny day, saving the last 4 frames for flash (which
worked, including the "flash ready" LED in viewfinder, blinking happily to
tell me "proper exposure". All shutter speeds I tried sounded good. I was
wondering just how stupid (and Zuikoholic) I was to bid on this thing (having
an OM-1MD and OM-2S already, and it WAS on THAT auction site), but NOW,
having handled it, used it, and just looked at it, I'm in love all over again!
It will go to John H. (Camtech) soon for a CLA, foam replacement, and battery
conversion (I borrowed the battery, now about three years old and still going
strong (!!!) from my OM-1MD for this afternoon's test). Gonna be hard to box
this thing up and let it out of my sight. I just have to look at it some
more!
For those of you new to the list, maybe new to photography, maybe still
trying to decide just which OM model to decide on, or to get NEXT, or others
who have never had the JOY of owning and using one of the original OM-1s or
OM-1ns, TRY one! But be warned! Once you see it, hold it, and use it,
you'll want one very very much! What a beautiful little machine they are!
Perfect for student or serious amateur, or even a pro independent enough to
think for himself. Especially perfect for those individuals who appreciate
well-made things.
I'm just as excited as Clint is about HIS deals today!
I paid $123.50, if I remember correctly. Not a DF deal, but considering
it's overall cosmetic condition, I'm a happy boy.
Gee, I hope Chris O'Neill doesn't read this. Now he'll be wantin' me ta send
it ta him. Not a chance. I'm fine. I can stop any time I want to. Really.
(gee, a 40/2 would be nice on this camera!)
Rich
(Now I gotta concentrate on beating Chris with a grip strap... er, I mean TO
a grip strap!)
