"mike m." <mnmitch@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> asks:...it took me over 3 years to find a 21 f2. I've been told that this lens is pretty rare with fewer than 1000 made orldwide. Anybody have any information to back this up?I can tell you that I've seen a serial number of 106619 on a 21/2 (and I own one in the high 105,000s ) so it seems likely that there were more than 6000 made (so far !). Of course given the practice of making up a batch of rings and using them as needed there might be significant gaps in the serial number range - On the other hand, the 21/2 front ring appears to have changed style only once which might make gaps less likely. Since they are still being sold new(B&H: $959.95), how can you talk about rarity and the total number produced?
