Not to mention remembering that there's always more... the one that's up
when you look isn't necessarily the one to have.

That pretty much represents my experience, too, Scott. Overall, I've had
very good luck.
If I ask a seller a series of questions about an item, and get just a vague
one-line answer to all of the questions ("item looks good", etc.), I simply
don't bid on that item. Corresponding with the seller a time or two before
the auction ends can tell you a lot about the seller.
Know your prices, be "picky about bidding", use "gut instinct" and lots of
patience.
