That pretty much represents my experience, too, Scott. Overall, I've had
very good luck.
If I ask a seller a series of questions about an item, and get just a vague
one-line answer to all of the questions ("item looks good", etc.), I simply
don't bid on that item. Corresponding with the seller a time or two before
the auction ends can tell you a lot about the seller.
Know your prices, be "picky about bidding", use "gut instinct" and lots of
patience.
