Dear George & Chris and Fellow Olympus users --
I was looking for the solvent that is used for the decaffeination of
coffee hoping that it would help me
to quickly dissove away the Devcon 5 minute epoxy that I stupidly used
after I stripped the threads
repairing it the last time.
BTW, I consulted the Olympus Repair Guide on Lee Hawkin's pages and got
Mark Dapoz's
address because I've got to try to repair my M.15 V Control Pack 2
again.
Thanks for the diagrammatic information Mark !
For decaffeination of coffee the solvent is methylene chloride and ethyl
acetate.
There are basically two processes for decaffeination of coffee: straight
solvent and the "water process".
Put the green coffee beans into solvent or into cold water plus solvent
and stir. After the caffeine is leached
out of the coffee beans into the solvent is evaporated. Only a small
amount of caffeine remains in the beans.
I could not find any so I consulted the WWW with Google Search and found
out that I could use good old Acetone to loosen the epoxy. Acetone
also works to dissolve the rubber cement used on some OM camera
repairs. I prefer to work with acetone or ethanol with projects of this
nature because the human body can deal with small amounts via
metabolism. The chlorinated solvents are far more dangerous!
>Now THERE'S an interesting subject! I've always wondered how they
>take the caffeine out of coffee??? And, frankly, I don't believe what
they
>say 'bout caffeine being bad for us.Wudduya think, George?
I don't know if I'll be successful with this repair because I've messed
it up pretty badly
so if anyone can point me to a source for a replacement M.15V control
pack 2 then I'd really
appreciate it.
