Acer, CHP must have taken a few BMWs for free to evaluate. BMW is just trying
to break into the U.S. police bike market. I haven't heard of a BMW purchase
yet of any consequence. Most departments stick to the Harleys in the "buy
American" vein, but, since CHP has bought Kawasakis in the past, who knows?
The model I have is a completely new Police model which Harley states was
produced after listening to what the CHP wanted. Built to their specs. So, I
would expect that this is the model they purchased for the 2001 model year
which only began in September. Friends of mine have definitely seen the bike
in CHP use.
Harley told me I may very well have received the first of this model that was
delivered outside of California. The Mexican State Police ordered 2000 of
them, but there may have been some sort of problem I'm told, with that order.

is that true only for sportbikes (aka crotch rockets)>

I don't think it's quite that easy.... but I really haven't tried it yet. (
Oh no, I said "yet"! )
Best,
