Having now peered inside the lens assembly of an RD, I noticed that
there was no link between the film speed setting and the flashmatic
system. I have to conclude therefore that the guide number setting has
to be adjusted in view of the film speed. So if I have a flash with a
guide number of 20 (ISO 100 in m) and I'm using ISO 400 film, I should
use a guide number setting of 40 (m). Is that right? I quickly
examined the actual behaviour of both my RD and RC, and they are both
quite consistent with this - no change of aperture set for a given focal
distance regardless of film speed.
