At one point, I owned the Bogen 3021 tripod. While it is rock
steady, it is much too heavy to carry around in the field, in my
opinion. I traded it for the full size Tilt-all tripod, which is
much more to my liking. It is very tall, very sturdy, quite light,
wonderfully made, and pretty cheap.
The one drawback: the legs don't spread very wide, so it's not a
good choice for macro work.
But I think it is a great tripod, and I'm always surprised it's not
talked about more as a viable tripod option.
James.
The center column reverses quite easily for macro work. It has rubber
feet which screw down to expose spikes. The tilt/pan head is non
removable so it is probably harder to use than a tripod with a ball
head, but the built in head seems very stable and does not contribute
much weight to whole thing. It is a three section which makes it a
little long to strap to a pack.
