: For me the biggest advantage of a fast lens is the increased brightness
: of the viewfinder.  Combining a fast lens with a 2 series screen makes
: composing and focusing so much easier.  Take a look through a 50/1.2
: combined with a 2-4 screen and you'll see what I mean.

Aye - and then there's the third thing after gaining one stop in shutter /
film speed, and ease of focus: the reduced DOF, which is especially
important in the 28-100mm range. The best example for this is the 35mm/F2
lens, which is closest to the standard lens as any other wide angle. That
is, you can do both standard lens tricks with it and wide angle tricks.
