My name is John and I'm a Zuikohobbiest . . .
I was bad this past week . . . perhaps not as bad as Tom . . . but still bad.
It all started the a couple days after Christmas. Fellow Zuikohobbiests,
you know the holidays are a most stressful time. 'Lympus Lust for a black
OM-2n was building and an advertisement for one in 9- condition at a decent
price had been seen.
I had made a trek to pick up a batch of wedding photographs and drop some
slides off for printing. Alas, I was too close to the location of this
black OM-2n body. Temption was resisted on the way to the lab, but
proximity to it was as an insect caught in a "Pitcher Plant"
(Darlingtonia). Its siren song could be heard easily within three
blocks. I had to see it, to hold it, to hear its shutter release, look
through its viewfinder, and catch a whiff of the subtle odor of its body
covering.
It was there, and I picked it up to caressed it. Otherwise in superb
condition, its base plate was badly dinged and it would need foam
replacement. The price for its condition was too high for me. The sadness
of that day. I left without it.
Caressing and briefly operating that black OM-2n didn't sate the 'Lympus
Lust. It only fueled desire. Even if I couldn't afford it, I had to find
another one, to at least know there was one. Then, at another source
within driving distance two days later, I found a 9+ OM-2S at a good
price. I had very nearly bought an OM-2S when I had found my OM-4 a number
of years ago, and of course it has a black body. I was able to control the
urge to purchase it immediately, but the 'Lympus Lust grows until you can
taste it. I called on January 2nd. Yes, they still had it. It became
unbearable. I bought it.
The OM-2S arrived today. Yes, it is well deserving of its 9+
condition. Its previous owner had well cared for it. The only thing that
will eventually need attention is having the Flash Ready conversion done
later this year (it has a green Flash Ready LED in the viewfinder).
I can feel the 'Lympus Lust growing for a black OM-1n already. Oooooh, I
can hold off for now with the fix from the OM-2S, but I know it's only a
matter of time. I doubt the Spring will thaw long before I have one.
