In that case this OM-2N definitely has some kind of problem. Without
batteries installed the shutter consistently operates as follows, regardless
of metering mode setting:
1. On "B" the shutter remains open as long as the shutter release button is
depressed;
2. On all other shutter speed settings the shutter operates at an unvarying
speed, regardless of ASA setting. The mirror does not lock up and the
shutter does not lock open.
With batteries installed the shutter operates very inconsistently, even on
"B" - regardless of metering mode setting the shutter and mirror often lock
open/up on "B", even after the shutter release button is released. When set
to "manual" mode, at slower settings the shutter seems more prone to locking
open indefinitely, while at faster speeds it seems more likely to operate
properly.
Still, considering the asking price ($50 for the OM-2N; Winder 2 with some
problems of its own; Zuiko 50/1.4 with some fungus and diaphragm linkage
problems; Tamron 80-210/f3.8-4 with an entire mushroom farm flourishing
inside but with an undamaged/undinged barrel and surprisingly smoothly
operating controls; and, of course, the Adaptall mount which is worth a few
bucks) it's probably worth the risk.

"B" is, if you consider that a speed. It works with or without batteries.
