Albeit a noble sentiment, this idea has been tried before.
Olympus' reaction
has been either "Sorry, but we've moved on, and we suggest you do,
too," or a
great big non-committal yawn. In either case, there didn't seem to be any
wild rush to suddenly change course.
I suspect we'll see the demise of the OM system in the next few years (not a
big deal -- the cameras will probably last longer than the availability of
film). Till then, I'll just keep happily using what I've got, and
thanking my
lucky stars I can afford it both in terms of time and money.

I think if you look around you will see that there are very few people
lugging around quality 35mm gear. It is point and shoot and digital.
Sadly, I think Olympus is on to something.

Three major camera manufacturers who make digital equipment just came
out with brand new professional level FILM cameras prompting American
Photo this month to call it the new film camera revolution because of
the return to easy to use knob and lever controls. Most
manufacturers can see that there is money to be made on both sides of
the image format business. Olympus compared with the other camera
manufacturers is, I think, an aberration. For years it has been a
producer of consumer cameras. Somehow they were swayed off their
normal path for a few years with the OM. Another aspect of the genius
of Maitani? Unfortunately, the OM seems to be the product of a
personality rather than a corporate stance. OLY is just back to
normal. The more successful they are in beating back the big guys in
the digital field and making a lot of money, the more likely they are
to take on the luxury of a pro flagship camera system assuming some
brilliant new camera designer comes along. I think it more likely
that Oly will keep going after unoccupied niche markets that it can
either dominate or carve out a substantial share of. So enjoy the OM
stuff. It is still great and it is still being manufactured.
