I bought my first OM-1 MD in '74. Started doing some "serious" photography
in about '68 with Voigtlander Vito II (still got it), then went into MF with
a Mamiya C220 with 80mm f2.8 (still got it), added the 55mm, then the 180mm
(still got 'em). Then I wanted to do a bit more with transparencies
(Kodachrome, Ektachrome at that time), so I borrowed a friend's Nikon F with
a few lenses (no, I don't still have 'em - gave 'em back). Then I thought I
should get my own SLR and about that time Olympus released the OM-1. It got
rave reviews in every photo mag I read, so I decided that was the camera
(wasn't really impressed with the Nikon). I sent one of my father's friends
off with the cash (I think about $AU125) on his holiday to Fiji with
instructions to bring me back an OM-1 & 50mm f1.8. It duly arrived and I
have never regretted the decision since, and yes I still have that original
OM-1 MD & 50mm f1.8. Next purchase was a 24mm f2.8, then..., until now
having more bodies and lenses than I really need, but couldn't bear to part
with any of them.
