Oh - I got bushwacked the usual way. In the 9th grade I took a photography
course using a 126 instamatic (and a few pictures with my dad Konica (s,s2??)).
I spent all summer mowing lawns and by the start of the 10th grade I was able
to purchase an slr. It was a tough decision. I spent all summer reading
popular photography/modern photography. I went to every shop and examined the
various cameras (nikromat, nikon fm, minolta srt 101/102, canon fb, ...)
(seems really silly today since the lens is more important). In the end I chose
an olympus om1 (and developed a very deep dislike for bricky nikon). Don't know
why. By the 11th grade I had enough money to buy another lens! I noticed that
the ones by vivitar were cheaper than the ones by olympus (I thought all lenses
were equal) so I purchased a vivitar series 1 90mmf2.5 (luck - pure luck
(duck the boos)). For four years I used only those two lenses.
To this day I have never seen a Nikon I liked and a majority of the b&w
pictures I see from nikons I still dislike (esp when I'm told they were
taken with a nikon). Don't ask why -- I don't know the answer.
me.
