This is the *Canadian government* we're talking about. Even though, under
NAFTA, huge swacks of items are supposedly "duty-free," they still get their
pound of flesh by charging (a) GST on the value of the item being imported and
(b) a $5.00 "handling fee" on every shipment into the country. Death by a
thousand cuts. I'm surprised the U.S. hasn't taken the Canadian government to
a NAFTA tribunal under the charge that such additional fees levied are simply
an attempt to re-establish duties under another name. (That's what they really
are, after all.)
