Are you using an OM-2, or perhaps an OM-1 (non-N models)? If so,
sometimes the hotshoes will short, even if they've been OK for years.
Remove the shoe 1, 2, or 3 (if one's attached), take a paper towel or
the like, roll one corner into a point and twist it down into the
threaded opening over the prism of the camera. Now blow into the
opening and replace the shoe. Hopefully that will fix you up!
