If you camera was unaware that the flash was attached, it might have
"locked open" -
do you remember if the ready light was visible in the viewfinder? If
not, try
cleaning the shoe's contacts with an old-style typewriter eraser (don't
scratch!).
(BTW, it is imperative that the "X/FP" switch be in the "X" position
anytime you
use a strobe flash. Otherwise, the flash will fire, but at the wrong
time. "FP"
is for flash bulbs only.)
