And what doofus thought up linking the shutter release lock to the
wind lever? Is _everyone_ supposed to use their right eye to focus/
frame?
That was a reasonably justifiable influence of photojournalists in pre-motor
drive days. There are photos and documentary film of 'em shooting Leicas
and various SLRs, right-eyed and flipping the advance lever pretty darned
fast. I've never shot that fast anyway and feel like a 1 fps winder is
plenty for me.
To me a shutter release lock is pretty useless. The Canon FTbn has an
interesting variation on the theme because its lock will also lock the
shutter open, serving as a substitute for a cable release. The Canon T70 is
like most cameras with built-in winders/drives: when the camera is on, the
shutter is always cocked. Years ago I was told never to leave a mechanical
shutter cocked for an extended period; but when I'm spending the day
shooting I nearly always recock after every shot to be ready for the next.
I dunno.
