Aperture-priority/shutter speed-ignorant mode ain't necessarily a bad thing,
'specially when using fast film in bright light for action. Or with most
tripod mounted shots.

With a manual focusing lens, the viewfinder display is turned off, and
the OM-88 provides only aperture preferred mode. In other words, you
won't know what shutter speed the camera will use.
