While it is my favorite 35-70mm zoom, one of the problems with the
35-70mm f/3.6 is low to moderate contrast images at ~50mm to 70mm. The
corners have noticably lower contrast than the center. The old Modern
Photography test (which we have put on the WWW) show that, too. It is
the main reason reason I didn't get one when I was younger. But the
resolution is quite high in this lens.
I'd say the 3.6 is a good pick for high contrast subjects, because it
would help reduce the contrast on film.
