Since we have people spewing out lists of tremendous classic audio gear,
I'll play the opposite side of things and promote the modern stuff:
Excellent speakers: Mackie HR824 midfield monitors--they have their own
built-in matched and tuned amp. I'd love to setup an entire home-theature
system with these things. Extremely accurate (but not as painfully so as
Genelecs, nor as expensive) and enjoyable to listen to.
Next up: Bose Acoustimas (I've got the fives), not very accurate but very
lovely to listen to when hung correctly. I don't have any problems with
either the highs or the lows with mine and the bass module will shake the
plaster off your neighbors' walls. Again, positioning is key.
Digital recording in 24/96 format: Hubba hubba, digital has finally arrived!
Mics and preamps from Earthworks. Perfect match to the 24/96 format.
Oops, this was supposed to be about home audio....
Of course, one must take photos of everything with our beloved Zuikos.
