The only time I can conceive of focusing before mounting a polarizer would
be for nighttime photography with a tripod-mounted camera. Even then, I
haven't encountered a situation in which I couldn't see well enough through
the polarizer to focus.
Last night I used my mom's iS-2 to photograph a computer she wishes to sell
and, with a polarizer attached, the autofocus mechanism did occasionally
have trouble zeroing in on the mostly-white computer. I just switched to
manual focus.

Thanks to everyone for sharing how to use a polarizer filter. Maybe I
was not clear in the previous request for clarification: The emphasis
was on the word "QUICKLY". I know how to use a polarizing filter...
However, my question has to do with the recommendation "focus first,
then mount the polarizing filter". I really don't know how that can
be done quickly (again, without changing the focus while mounting the
filter) when one is pressed to take a picture quickly. How many of
you actually follow this process???
