Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions so far on what
combination of lenses to carry.
Some of you may be wondering why I have such an odd collection
of lenses that overlap so much. I had just the three prime
lenses for a very long time (28/2.8, 50/1.8, 135/3.5) because
that was all I ever needed.
Then after reading the glowing praises of the 35-70/3.5~4.5 zoom
on this list, I went looking for one and found someone selling
all three zooms together as a package (28-48/4, 35-70/3.5~4.5,
75-150/4) and he would not break it up. So I ended up with all
three zooms. I'll probably keep all the lenses because my son
has my OM-PC/40 and he takes my lenses all the time.
The fact is that the prime lenses are all faster than the zooms,
so just in case there is anything in-doors (with low light), a
faster prime (either the 28/2.8 or 50/1.8) would be better than
the zoom. But I am still undecided wether it is worth carrying
the 50/1.8 with the 35-70/3.5~4.5.
As for film speed, I don't see a general consensus for ISO 100
vs. ISO 200 vs. ISO 400 (print film) for "general travel
photography". I may try a roll or two ISO 400s just to see how
it goes. Since I want to travel light, I'll only be carrying
one body (my trusted OM-1), so having multiple film available
is out of consideration. Thanks everyone.
