The 2N makes much less of a demand on the batteries, so it's possible the
batteries are near the end of their useful lives. New, together, they are
probably close to 3.2V, now they might be 2.9 volts. The 2N starts to
lock-up at 2.8 volts (or thereabouts) while the 4 may require a higher
starting voltage.
Now try a brand new set. It'll narrow the problem down.

Subject: [OM] OM4 problem
| Hi Zuiks,
|
| Got a problem with my OM4. I thought it was just
| dead batteries but tried them in my OM2n without a
| worry so now I am worried! Basically, nothing in
| the viewfinder display comes on, and when I go to
| check the battery it just makes a single very
| short beep. No light comes on the battery check
| either. What is likely to be the problem and will
| it be expensive?!? The camera still fires on
| manual 1/60sec, using flash etc..
| It happened out-of-the-blue. The only thing I did
| out of the norm was stick a winder on it but
| that's it.
|
| Any advice would be really appreciated,
|
| Regards, Mark
